Speed Watch

Morinville C.O.P. volunteers conduct occasional Speed Watch surveys on roads beside elementary schools. The goal is to educate drivers and remind them of their vehicle's speed in relation to the speed limit. We use a radar based system that displays vehicle speed in large, red LED lights. We set up about a half block from both a speed limit sign and a sandwich board advising drivers we are ahead.

COP volunteers do not issue tickets or stop vehicles. Here are the results in 2010.

* these vehicles would probably have received a ticket if the photo radar unit or an RCMP Member had been present.
